If you are visiting San Diego, don't miss this tour! We are locals but decided to play tourist for a weekend and go on the San Diego SEAL Tour. You can see the Harbor Seals on the beach in La Jolla, but on this tour you can see Sea Lions swimming around in the water and resting on the bait barges. Not only that, but viewing beautiful San Diego from the water is the BEST way to soak in the sights. You can buy your tickets at the booth in Seaport Village near the marina by the Hyatt. We bought ours online and saved a few dollars per person. Also, if you are a local resident, you can sign up online for the San Diego Hometown Pass and get in free with the purchase of one adult ticket. You board the Hydra Terra vehicle in Seaport Village right next to the ticket booth. From there, the tour travels along Harbor Drive and takes in the sights along the way including: The USS Midway Museum, the Cruise Ship Terminal, and the Star of India. The First Mate narrates the history of the San Diego harbor as the tour heads towards Shelter Island where it launches, or drives, into the bay. The sights seen from the water include: downtown San Diego, North Island Naval Air Base, and the Navy Nuclear Submarine base where you can glimpse the tops of the subs. The highlight of the tour is the families of Sea Lions that nap on the bait barges. We went during pupping season and saw lots of babies. The tour also goes by the Naval Marine Mammal training center where you can spot (from a distance) Bottlenose Dolphins splashing around in their pens. I highly recommend this tour!
